A glimpse of a fox

Some progress to report. We were watching the garden this evening, crouched at the front of the garden. A dog was barking in a neighbouring garden, and we could hear an animal moving about nearby, possibly under a shed. After 20 minutes or so, the fox finally appeared. He was cautious, but paused for few moments at the top of the step at the rear of the garden. Not for long, but long enough for three photos. And he didn't run off, just retreated to the security of the bushes at the back, first on one side of the garden, then the other. We shared the space (at long distance) for about five minutes.

An hour or so later we were outside again, and again he came into the garden, though this time revealing nothing more than eye shine. But this is progress indeed!

It's a fox!

"crouched at the front of the garden"

In time he will get used to your weird behaviour 😀

Thanks Lois. It's a painstaking process at the moment, much like our first fox encounters back in 2005 when we would spend hours sitting in the dark waiting.

Darko, I certainly hope so. I need to be quite a lot closer to lose the eye shine. Or he needs to be nearer the front of the garden (where there's some light) for me to attempt shots without flash.

Good news! He's got a curiously low angle to his ears (could see that in your earlier picture of him too). Sounds like he needs a little training in Cooperating with Photography 😉

Adele, he'll learn the benefits of being cooperative  He's obviously quite sussed the way he lurks in the shadows but we hope he'll relax just a bit over time.

All it takes is a little eggspertise 😉

Hmm, how do you teach foxes to be cooperative ;). Looks like you have a mission over next month or two 😀
