I've a major job on my hands keeping up with the fox pictures I'm getting, and I will sort some out shortly. But for the moment I want to post some of the other creatures that inhabit the garden. The bright sun today was perfect for macro work, allowing fast speeds and reasonable depth of field. I generally fire of a burst of shots each time to try and get at least one in proper focus. There's a lot of wasted shots, but without a tripod it's just about the only way. And I doubt I could easily position tripod to get some of these.

There are several more from today in the Butterflies and Bugs album, but I also aimed the camera at some of the garden flowers.

And as a quick update, the bolder of the two fox cubs has continued to visit late at night. Roofy meanwhile did appear briefly on his roof this afternoon only to be mobbed into a hasty retreat by two aggressive sea gulls. That made me wonder whether the wounds on his head are in fact the result of a gull attack, rather than ticks. In any event, the wounds are healing nicely and he spent a good deal of time in the garden towards the end of the day.

Beautiful macros, and it looks like you're going to bond with one cub, at least! It was a lesson for me when Roofy showed that you weren't a threat to the cubs, since I didn't think animals taught each other anything beyond the instincts they are born with.

10 Jun 2007Thanks. I've been having fun practising with the lens. This weather helps a lot!
I've been reliably informed by Mis over on The Feathers Pub forum that the blue damsel is in fact an azure damselfly. And I should point out that neither the lily nor the foxes were macro shots 😉

10 Jun 2007Lovely day for macro-photography I see- well done. Ypu've got some very nice pictures there.
Fwiw, I take several shots of insects and spiders also, they're not always good at 'posing' for a stationary shot. I guess sometimes you just have to hold the shutter down and hope for the best…

12 Jun 2007Chthonid… it's always a case of holding the shutter and hoping! And I get plenty of blank shots (insect moved), blurred shots (I moved), out of focus shots (we both moved).

12 Jun 2007LOL- so not a dissimilar experience to my own.
I'm pondering getting a magnifier for my eyepiece for my macro shots. Not sure if you use anything like that?

There I can see the different between your excellent camera and my humble one. :eyes:
