Just a brief post tonight, mainly to record my first sighting of a sandpiper this year at Falmer Pond. These small waders turn up there occasionally (last August was my previous sighting). I managed a few frames against an impossibly dark background.

I had better luck with some of the larger birds. This greylag, for example, exhibiting what I take to be courtship behaviour… neck stretched forward and generally showing off (noisily).

I also grabbed a few shots of the ubiquitous gulls. This one of a gull coming in to land is my pick of the bunch.

And for the final shot, a moorhen among the gravestones. They look vaguely incongruous in that setting, but it captures the gentle pace of village life. Looking at this you'd never guess that we're within spitting distance of a major trunk road (that divides the village) and 22,500 capacity football stadium.

  2. Erwin, thanks!

  3. Adele, I think the gull survived 😉 The sandpiper was definitely camera-shy, but nice to see them around again.

  4. Great shots. The second one is fantastic!

  5. Lois, thanks!
