Today was a quiet day, and the only photos I've taken have been in the garden between rain showers.
Bee and lenten rose

The spawn continues to develop

The newts are active

And overhead, a sparrowhawk keeps watch

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 40D. The bee was taken with the Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG macro lens; the spawn with the same lens but with a 31mm extension tube. The newts were photographed with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens, and the sparrowhawk with the EF 400mm f/5.6L USM lens.

  1. You have a wonderful garden! And with such a variety of wildlife. It's always amazing to think how many of these animals, insects and birds are sometimes so close to us.

  6. Lois, it looks more wonderful in photos than in life, and believe me I sometimes have to search for the subjects but we are quite lucky. 🙂

  8. Erwin, thanks!

  9. Darko, it makes all the difference having some outside space.

  10. Very good, did you watch Hidden Worlds by Richard Hammond the other day on BBC1? its amazing how many things are happening around us even when its seemingly quiet. 😀

  11. Mark, I didn't see that programme, but you're right. It's incredibly busy out there even when nothing is happening 🙂

  12. A lot happening for a quiet day 😉 Great shot of the hawk, and of the bee and rose!

  13. Adele, the hawk flew past several times, but only came in relatively close once. Nice though and the sun was low in the sky.
