A Sunday Mixture

Another bright, warm day today. I'm not sure if this means we've already had winter or whether we've some cold shocks ahead, but I did see two butterflies today. Both refused to keep still, so you'll have to take my word for the fact that one was white, and the other yellow. I wasn't close enough to get more of an i.d., but a nice surprise.

The sight of the butterflies got me thinking. If they're around, we should be seeing more insect life. So I plugged the extension tubes on the end of the 100-400 lens and started hunting. I did come across two ladybirds, but ended up photographing a small feather on a path.

And a leaf

And my first hoverfly of the year

The gulls were active too (when are they not?), but I think this is probably the first time I photographed a gull's tongue.

No sighting of foxes this evening, though we did have a late visit last night. The wood mouse did put in an appearance though.

Camera note: Feather, leaf and hoverfly taken with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens plus extension tubes; the gull was taken with the same lens but with the Kenko Teleplus 1.4x Pro 300 DG teleconverter. For the photos of the mouse I used the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens.

Very nice, indeed. I was very interested to see the gull's tongue! I don't think I've ever seen one before!

Mark, I'm certainly enjoying the good weather, though I didn't see any of it today (except through windows).
