Lapwing

I’d been hoping for another fox cub, but so far nothing this evening. Instead here are a couple of shots of lapwings taken today at Pulborough Brooks, the RSPB reserve in West Sussex.

The last shot is simply a reference image, also taken today at Pulborough. It’s a nightingale, an iconic small bird. It had gathered a good sized crowd around it to listen to its beautiful song.

Fox Cubs 2017

Basically, I’m grinning ear to ear. I’ve just been in the garden and expected to see the large male adult fox who has been a constant visitor to the garden. To my utter delight I instead was met by a tiny little fox cub! It’s clearly only just beginning to explore away from its den. So cute and so small! I managed a few quick photos before it retreated to the cover at the back of the garden.

First sighting of a fox cub in 2017. It’s tiny and probably not more than about 6 weeks old.

That’s a big mouthful, little fella!

This is who I had been expecting to see. The adult male fox gathering food last night

Many more hours watching ahead of me in the coming weeks. Has quite made my Easter!

Early Morning Brighton

Quite a different set of photos for a change. I took these early on Thursday morning in central Brighton, when everything was quiet. It was cool, but sunny and the nearest I’ll get to being a street photographer.

All of these were taken with my 50mm lens, which I am growing to like (not least because it is so much lighter than everything else I use).

That was the morning… here are a couple of fox photos from the night (both have now featured on the Fox of the Day page). He’s getting more comfortable with me, but I would love to be able to photograph the vixen (who appears on the trail camera) and the cubs (who so far haven’t).
