It's been a couple of weeks since I've been down to Rottingdean to see the fulmars, but I took an hour out this afternoon to see what was going on. The day had developed into a brisk, bright spring weather in contrast to the morning when we were again shrouded in mists. The fulmars were still skimming the cliff face.
And most of the usual holes in the cliff face were inhabited, including the one with the small 'front garden'.
I stayed there for just under an hour as I wanted to head over the see if I could spot the owl again, over near Brighton Racecourse. No luck as it happened, but I did see my first chiffchaff of the year. Or is it my first willow warbler? The two species are almost impossible to tell apart!

The skylarks were alternating between hovering at great height and nestling in the long grass.

great fulmar pics. As for the chiffchaff-willow warbler, there only way Ic an tell its by the call, so next time you see it poke it with a stick and see what noise it makes 😀
Great skylark pic btw, the focal length on the camera Im using is just to short for me to get close enough to them. But now Im working a dslr + 500mm lens maybe be possible in the enxt few months 🙂
LOL, good luck telling the Phylloscopus warblers apart! :insane: I heard a chiffchaff yesterday.

Neil, I'll remember that next time I see one :whistle: The skylark is a bot of a crop, but 400mm was just about ok. I followed it as it came down to land so was reasonably near.
Wulpen, no I don't think the Siberian Chiffchaff makes it this far west. Pretty bird though, from the photos I've seen.
I've seen some photos taken the Netherlands, so anything is possible. They're so small, it would be easy to miss one if it did show up here. Great though!

Well there is som migration fluks of the Siberian TJiftjaf the have be seen in Belguin, The Nederlands and france look out you never now… this info is from bidwatching friends in Europe…
