It’s been a few days since I’ve posted any photos of our garden badgers, so I’m going to make up for it tonight. These were all taken on election day (I needed something to cheer me up).

This is the large male badger, the tough guy on the block.

All those peanuts make a badger thirsty.

He may be tough, but he likes a nice portrait.

While I was watching him, the second badger appeared at the back of the garden. I haven’t sexed this one (there is a third, female, but she has only appeared on the trail camera), but it’s undoubtedly younger that the big guy; and a little more cautious.

Those peanuts look good!

Badger

I mentioned the third badger, and she appears in the following series of video clips (she’s nearest the camera in the sequence starting at 1m 6s). The flash of light at around 42s is me, with the stills camera. There are also a couple of clips of foxes, including a fox-badger encounter.

Camera note: all photos taken with the Canon 7D Mark II and EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM lens.

  1. These are wonderful photos. Clearly the badgers sense safety in your garden. It is a shame that so many more are and will be under threat in the new regime. I reported four dead on A roads yesterday to the Badger Turst folk who want to know about such sightings. So all the more hopeful to see ones about doing proper badgering from your photos. Thank you.

    1. Aurora, thanks! Road kill is such a huge problem for wildlife. Luckily it’s quiet where we are, but I do see them on the main roads round here. Hopefully I’ll get some more photos up soon but in the meantime I’ve let them take over my ‘Fox of the Day‘ page.

  2. Fox was quick to decide to leave the peanuts to badger and try to find food somewhere else 😀 Nice set of photographs!

    1. Darko, thanks! Yes, the foxes are usually quite cautious. Somewhere (from last year I think) I did film a fox get just a touch too close and have to make a run for it when the badger got annoyed.

  3. Very nice badger shots!
The foxes are looking a little the worse for wear.

    1. dW, the spring is the worst time of year for foxes… moulting, plus cubs chew their brush. They always look rubbish until mid-summer! I’m delighted with the badgers though. A real treat!
