A small selection of coastal birds and waders seen at Seven Sisters. Some of them I expect to see, but I was surprised by a curlew emerging from below the bank of the inlet.

Cormorants are a more frequent sighting, but it was good of this one to come in quite close.

Herons are also among the more common visitors here.

And where there are herons, you can often find little egrets. The size of these elegant birds is deceptive. By almost every measure they are smaller than a herring gull but those long legs make a whole world of a difference.

  1. The egret's feet seem almost out of place on so dazzling a bird.

  2. Adele, what the 'yellow wellies'? I think they add a self-deprecating style touch to a bird that otherwise really could be too big for its boots. 😉
