I was down at Rottingdean on Bank Holiday Monday. A few fulmars were about, but it was the smaller birds that really caught my attention. The rock pipits were dancing along the cliff walls feeding their young (hidden deep in the cliff plants), and pied wagtails were flitting between the cliff and the promenade.

Both species were gathering large numbers of grubs, but occasionally the larger pipit resorted to theft…

As ever the garden has its own live-in attractions. Here one of the cubs is harassing mum.

And from Sunday night, a scrap between two cubs…

And finally, also from Sunday, a portrait.

  1. Darko, I like those moments when something enters the shot at just the right time.

  2. I really liked the 5th photo. Needed some time to get it though 😆

  3. Erwin, the pipits were great. Those are just a few of the many photos I took.

  4. Great post, indeed! 🙂 I never realised that pipits were such thieves but I don't get to watch them very often.

    Cubs are great, of course!

  5. Adele, the pipits are real characters down there. Very bold, though a wagtail is not the toughest competitor they could come across. I'd like to see them take on the black-backed gulls!

  6. Very nice! The first shot shows so much personality!

  7. Lois, yes that first one is cute. Such a mean face it has 🙂

  8. Great photos Adele will love the R/P
