The first of two posts tonight. This, strictly speaking, is yesterday’s but I didn’t get time to post it. The bird is a black redstart, a relatively uncommon species. There ae less than 100 breeding pairs in the UK, and fewer than 1000 wintering in this country. I saw it at Falmer, in the local churchyard, perching prettily on the gravestones.

  1. Not too many of them, it seems. Is it protected?

    1. Darko, it’s ‘amber listed’ which means it is at risk. And – I just checked – it’s on ‘Schedule 1‘ which means it has additional protection at all times.
