Treetop Cormorant

After last week’s fishing exploits, the cormorant seems to have taken heed of the signs and was back on his favoured perch this morning.

He stayed there a short while and then took to the air. He circled the pond several times before deciding on an altogether higher perch.

He seemed quite happy up there, apart from a lengthy dispute with one particular branch.

I left him still tugging on the branch, but I’ll close tonight’s blog with a slightly earlier photo taken as he circled around the pond.

A Cormorant Gets a Fish

Signs are posted all around the pond, and the message is clear. Fishing is not allowed.

But when did posting a sign stop a cormorant from going after a hearty meal. 🙂

The photos of the cormorant with its catch were taken directly into a mix of bright reflection from the surface of the water, and deep shade from the trees at the edge of the pond. Inevitably they lack a little quality. The cormorant seems happy though!

Silver, Black and White

As a sort of follow-on from yesterday’s post, I’ve added silver to the colour scheme. This time though the subject is a pretty pied wagtail (the black and white) caught paddling at the edge of Falmer Pond (the silver) early this morning.
