Night Sky

A couple of shots taken last night when the skies were beautifully clear. First a waning moon…Click on the image to get the uncropped version.

moon

We have one moon. Jupiter has four, three of which are visible in this shot, also from last night. The lower moon is actually two very close together, hence the slight increase in brightness. The shot was taken hand-held, ISO 16000, f/5.6 and 1/60s.

Oystercatchers and Fulmars at Rottingdean

I had to pop down to Rottingdean today. It was high tide, and very windy.

Down on one of the few more sheltered parts of the beach, a small group of oystercatchers were lazily grazing among the pebbles.

Two Starlings and a Half Moon

I didn’t venture beyond the garden today. A small flock of starlings is making use of the trees at the rear of the garden and providing plenty of opportunities to practise photographing them in flight. Lots of erratic movement, which the 7D Mark II auto-focus copes with extremely well.

I did see a fox out there this evening, the one with the stumpy brush. No photos, but I did take a few shots of the moon which is waxing gibbous (great phrase) at 57% right now.
