A collection of foxes

Foxes on Film and Badger Stills

It’s been far too long since I’ve posted about foxes, and I’m still struggling in terms of actual sightings. The trail camera though continues to do its work and there are a couple of regular foxes that frequent the garden in the early hours of the morning. These are a few clips of them, including some a little after dawn (and hence in colour). Too early for me, but a trail cam never sleeps.

As for photos, the foxes are avoiding me, but the badgers are gluttons for peanuts and will happily munch while I take pictures. This sequence is from Saturday night. The badger sniffed out the peanuts and came down the garden path to tuck in. I was 10-15 feet further back.

Badger Photo Special

It’s been a few days since I’ve posted any photos of our garden badgers, so I’m going to make up for it tonight. These were all taken on election day (I needed something to cheer me up).

This is the large male badger, the tough guy on the block.

All those peanuts make a badger thirsty.

He may be tough, but he likes a nice portrait.

While I was watching him, the second badger appeared at the back of the garden. I haven’t sexed this one (there is a third, female, but she has only appeared on the trail camera), but it’s undoubtedly younger that the big guy; and a little more cautious.

I mentioned the third badger, and she appears in the following series of video clips (she’s nearest the camera in the sequence starting at 1m 6s). The flash of light at around 42s is me, with the stills camera. There are also a couple of clips of foxes, including a fox-badger encounter.

Badger Update, plus a cute little rat and a fine stock dove

I’m going to try to pack in a fair bit tonight as a way of catching up with myself. I’ll start with some badger news (old news for those who follow on Facebook). There are two badgers that visit regularly, one of which is a lactating sow. She’s considerably more shy than the male, but even a shy badger can’t avoid the trail camera. Here she is a few nights ago.

I’ve been working hard with the male badger to get some better poses and positions around the garden. We’re making mutual progress in terms of confidence, which opens up some good opportunities. This is a tiny selection taken over the past few days.

Badger… black and white… makes sense to me!

As for the rest of this post, the first is one of several shots I’ve taken recently of a stock dove. These look very similar to the more prevalent feral pigeon, but a slighter in build and can most easily be distinguished by the dark eye. Yes, this is an arty rendition but I did get some sharp shots too. I just like this sort of thing.

Finally a couple of my favourite little rats down at Falmer Pond today. They were out in force (five were running around at one point), but they do look cute when standing on hind legs.
