Back in July, I rescued a blue tailed damsel from a spider’s web. And at the end of July I witnessed a wasp attacking a spider. Today I watched as a wasp became entangled in a web…
The wasp eventually freed itself and flew off, none the worse for the encounter. Interestingly, the spider didn’t appear to try and catch its potential prey.
Here’s an different web, elsewhere in the garden. This small spider seems to be doing rather well (the flies less so).

15 Oct 2007Nice shots there:) Maybe the wasp's sting is deadly for the spider and so it knows not to mess with it perhaps?

15 Oct 2007That's what I reckon too. It worked pretty hard to get free.

17 Oct 2007Yes, I can imagine it would have to be a pretty powerful spider to overcome a wasp.
