It was surprisingly small and I nearly missed it. It may well be among the most common of our sandpipers (hence its name), but it is certainly not one of the more regular visitors to a local village pond. The light (which started off bright) was already fading under the cover of cloud, so these shots were a struggle.

Fluffing

On other fronts I'm currently building a new website with slightly cleaner lines than my current offering. I'm using WordPress and playing around with the Photocrati templates. The aim is to have something much simpler (and smaller) than my existing site (which is just about all hand coded) for displaying photos. In time I may integrate some of the old site, but that could be a lot of work. At the moment I'm still in the foothills of the learning curve and won't be adding much content until I'm satisfied that the design is as I want it.

Just one last photo (from last night). The young dog fox was about, still very wary. Here he's watching his sister 'do her nails'!

Camera note: all sandpiper shots taken with the EF 400mm f/5.6L USM lens. The foxes were photographed with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens.

  1. I checked on your new website, works nice and feels like a good idea to make it that way, even though it is still in development stage

"Here he's watching his sister 'do her nails'!

    😆

  2. Like the new site! I'm mostly still stuck in hand-coded html land

Anyway, seeing a common sandpiper at any pond would certainly make me do a double take! Great sighting

  3. Darko, it's so long since I've really worked on a site but my old one is very basic in design and I haven't really done anything to it for a couple of years. Far too much work to redesign the whole thing, so starting again made sense.

  4. Adele, there's something quite appealing about hand-coding web pages from scratch. I know next to nothing about CSS, so the template route is a lot easier though every now and then I find I get stuck wishing I could just re-code the page to make it do what I want.

The sandpiper threw me completely when I first spotted it.

That`s exactly what I would do
