Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D EF and 400mm f/5.6L USM lens.
Those really are superb action shots! But which one won?

Gorgeous shots, I especially love the second and last ones. WOW!thepaperbutterfly.net
😆 This is great!!!
Words, wonderful captures! You were dead on for those!
Caitlin, thanks. It's fun when that kind of action suddenly takes off just a few feet away.
Robin, they were nice and close and the light was forgiving, if not perfect.
Darko, thanks
Erwin, thanks!
Adele, I think it was a dishonourable draw with each flying off in opposite directions. They nest in a nook in the church roof.
:eyes: Excellent series :hat:
Sami, thanks! I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time and with the sun behind me. 🙂
:wizard: Amazing!! :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Thanks Rachel!
What amazes me is how sharp and not shaken images you get with 400mm lens
Sami, a fast shutter speed helps, but the 400mm 5.6 is a great birding lens. It's fairly light to carry and well balanced. It took a bit of practice though. At first I did struggle without image stabilization.

 I don't have that luxury on my Olympus.
I have it on some lenses (like my 100-400 zoom), and it can make a big difference but the long prime lenses with IS are so expensive.
This Is Great
