Down by the farm…

A small selection of shots taken over the past couple of days. I've been enjoying the sunshine, but not the bitterly cold wind that has accompanied it.

I'll start with my favourite from yesterday. I've photographed plenty of these on the ground, but they are surprisingly fast in the air. This was the only decent shot I managed as it shot out of the long grass.
Pheasant in flight

A small flock of linnets was swooping along the edge of the fields, swirling around and coming back down to rest.

Linnets

I was back in roughly the same location this morning. It was just as cold, but this little lamb didn't seem too bothered. After all, it has a nice warm coat.

Several geese were out and about as well.

And high in a tree, a goldfinch perched and watched.

boy!, you have been very busy! these are great shots!!
"but not the bitterly cold wind that has accompanied it." it has been altogether different here- but this hasn't stopped you from finding the beauty out there.

Darko, yes I was pleased to get that single usable shot. I see them a lot, but rarely close; and never close and in flight.

Jill, I don't mind the cold too much, if the sky is clear and the light good. It makes a change after all the rain we had.

I go back and forth with the cold- seems I've walked much less this winter than last for some reason.

Great shot of the pheasant! Difficult birds to photograph in flight, not least because they're in the habit of taking off in a great rush and then vanishing.

It's cold here; snow is forecast, but it hasn't fallen yet.

Jill, my walking will be a bit constrained for the next few days. I managed to sprain my ankle so am going to have to take it easy for a while.

Great photos – Im yet to pull off a pheasant in flight shot, despite a few good efforts

Neil, pheasants are absurdly tricky. I had about 8 blurs plus that one semi-sharp shot. Pheasants are huge, but I find skylarks easier!
