There’s not a lot of choice down at the pond at the moment. The cormorants have vanished, and I’ve not seen a heron for a while either. I could photograph the herring and black-headed gulls, but it’s the ducks which are putting on the main display.

The first sequence is a little white duck being ‘pursued’ by a gaggle of large runner ducks.

Not all the ducks were as active. This is a large hybrid who has taken to nestling down on an ivy-clad stone wall. She’s been there most mornings this week.

On another wall (the ducks seem to be keen to keep out of the mud), a male mallard standing to attention.

And just along from him, a female mallard sits contentedly contemplating the day.

  1. Lots of hybridising going on, eh, Words?

  2. The last one is just playing sitting duck, eh? 😀

    :yikes:

  3. Drako, ouch! Yes, I feel like I'm the sitting duck for missing that one.

  4. dW, I do wonder what on earth they'll produce, and can only hope that we get some decent weather to cive the chicks a chance. Last year very few survived the wet weather.
