A short sequence of a dunnock (aka hedge sparrow/hedge accentor) taken in the garden earlier today. These bold little birds are often overlooked (they lack the colourful plumage of so many other birds), but are highly entertaining to watch, especially around the breeding season when pairs of males will compete for the attention of a female.

  1. A nice little bird of unassuming plumage. I don't believe we have them over here.

  2. They are beautiful in a subtle way. I often find them surprisingly hard to photograph – they're too fond of shadowy corners.

  3. dW, they are very cute little things. Keep very much to themselves and seem among the calmest of all the small birds.

  4. Adele, I think its their quiet character that makes them so charming. The don't make a fuss, don't startle easily, and just now and then come out of the shadows.

  5. Does seem their low key tawny plumage must be good camouflage. As for looks…, well for me it's "less is better".

  6. innitlike, they are certainly difficult to see at times because of their colour, but they are quietly distinctive. Once you know them you can't mistake them for anything else. They have style!

  7. Great shots :hat:

  8. Sami, thanks!
