Early morning wildlife

Very occasionally I manage to get a few minutes with the camera in the (relatively) early morning. Today was one such opportunity.

Stanmer Park, 8.18am

This Comma butterfly was flitting along the edge of the meadow

And the Meadow Browns were everywhere

There are plenty of rabbits, but they tend to disappear at the first sign of human activity

The rabbit on the left is about to bolt

Making for the safety of the hedgerow

I had hoped to see a stoat, but they were elusive as ever. I did spot a kestrel hovering over the road on my way to work (perfect height, about 20 foot up, but nowhere to stop). But the biggest surprise (and another missed opportunity) was this evening. I'd just got in and was looking out into the garden when a sparrowhawk swooped in, grazed the bird feeder (I doubt it was after peanuts) and skimmed along the hedging before ascending over the roof and out of sight.

Glad to see the sun has returned! 🙂 Nice pictures too, especially of the rabbits. Oddly I've seen very few butterflies here, except for swallowtails. Maybe it's still too early in the season for them.

    I know u have a cool picture collection… And I hate u for it!! 😥

I wish I have a fraction of yr talent and maybe a sprinkle of Adele's (she's talented but she scares me with them possibly dangerous bears and gangster crows), and I'll be a happy girl…

So, care to donate some talent…?
