It's that time of year when I spend much of the evening crouched down by the side of the garden pond watching the newts feast on the abundant supply of frog spawn.
The spawn is developing nicely (this from Sunday night).
The newts are lively.
And together they create a fascinating spectacle as the newts play 'hunt the spawn'.
Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM lens and Canon 430EX flash unit.

13 Mar 2012Interesting shots, Words … watching the cleanup crew keep the frog population from becoming a nuisance.
It looks like you're going to have a fine crop of duckweed.

16 Mar 2012dW, the weed is the great success story of this particular pond, followed at some distance by the newts. The poor frogs have a rough time of it.
