Well very nearly a full moon. Technically it's full at around 09.40 tomorrow morning but at over 99% full I don't think anyone will quibble.

The first shot was taken a little under two hours after moon rise, while it was still low in the sky and tinged with colour.

The second shot is about three and a half hours later…

There are also some lovely clear views of Mars in the night sky at the moment. It's standing close to the moon (it is just above and to the left if you look up at the moon during most of the evening) and is distinctively red. I haven't managed anything approaching a usable photo of it, but then it is a long way away.

Fairly quiet on the garden fox front, but I'm more convinced now that there are new born cubs in the area. The evidence? This shot from the trail cam of a male (Shutterbug?) gathering up some scraps to take back to the den. This is typical behaviour when there is a nursing vixen or young cubs to feed. The adult males are excellent and cooperative parents.

  1. Excellent moon shots, Words … especially the first ….
Glad to hear about Shutterbug and his Lady.

  2. Nice shots, as always
I will check the sky above Vancouver tonight to see which planets are visible. If the sky is going to be clear, that is 😀

  3. Very good moon shots indeed

  4. Good news about the cubs.

I've bought a digital-book guide to astrophotography…which I haven't looked at due to being swamped with coursework. But I will hopefully have a chance to try out some of the techniques in Canada.

  5. Sami, thanks!

  6. Adele, I'll be interested to see what you manage with astrophotography. That's a whole different game, but I love the elaborate star traces that people get. The Stellarium sky chart you told me about is brilliant!

  7. dW, thanks! I'll keep monitoring the fox situation but I think it may be a while until I see any cubs.

  8. Darko, you should be able to see Mars from Vancouver, and late into the night Saturn might also appear low on the horizon towards the East.

  9. We are now in 7 days of rain period, so no sky watching for me :awww:

  10. Darko, we're technically in a drought (again) so could probably do with some of your rain.

  11. 😆
