When the mornings are clear this has to be one of my favourite times of the year. The light is great early in teh morning (but ‘early’ is late enough to be comfortable). The sun was up today and so I took a slightly circuitous route to work, stopping off at my old Falmer Pond haunt to see what was around. I was rewarded with a fine grey heron.

The fox is still around in the garden… and still playing the keep-your-distance game. I’ve stopped trying to get any closer. He’s happy, and that’s good enough for me.

  1. Great shots of the heron, Paul! I reckon the old “early to rise” worked well, eh?

    1. dW, I love the bright mornings at this time of year. Early but not too early. Another week or so and the timing will be spot on.

  2. Stunning photos of heron in flight. Your fox looks better than the one that walked through our garden two days ago at 1540 hrs from the graveyard several blocks away. I was surprised to see him but he legged it over the wall before I could get my camera out.

    1. Aurora, thanks! The heron was unusually helpful 🙂 It’s always good to see foxes out in the day. They should be getting their winter coat now, so hopefully your was just a bit bedraggled.

  3. Great photographs of heron!!

Yes, the light this time of year is excellent. Except, we had that kind of light for less than 30 minutes between portions of heavy raining. Overall, it rained 29 out of 31 days in October. Haven’t seen so much rain since November 2011 when I came to Canada…

    1. Darko, sorry to hear you’ve had so much rain. This year has been really good, but I go crazy when all we get are grey clouds and the wet stuff. It can be so depressing. So far this year has held up ok.
