The leaves are falling, and the colours are deepening. It's most certainly 'that time of year' again and the launch of the annual 'Autumn Photo Network' (APN). There's a link to current albums somewhere in the side-bar (I wish I could re-arrange the order that displays, but I promise it's there). And so for tonight I'll start with a couple (the only two in fact) so far in my Autumn in Sussex album.

Do check out the other albums in the APN. If last year is typical, there will be some amazing photos from around the world appearing over the next month or so.

I've one other shot for tonight. It's a young newt which will slowly lose its gills over the next few weeks. We seem to have a healthy number of them in the pond, but trying to spot them among the weed (they're tiny) is a lengthy process! I'll be adding more to the Amphibians album, but for now will close tonight's post with this shot.

Camera note: Squirrel taken with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens, Inkcaps with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM, and the newt with the Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG macro.

  1. …but it's spring 🙂

  2. Spring Photo Network (SPN) is open for the Southern Hemisphere!

  3. 😆 I hadn't realized.

  4. lol:P Hey nice pics Words, i will have to start mine soon:D That Newt made me think Whoa! its got 4 extra legs lol:lol:

  5. That squirrel is posing perfectly! Wonderful shot of the newt! I wish I saw them more often here.

I guess I could start my APN album now but I'd rather wait for my computer – and my usual software – to arrive. I've had enough of resizing pictures in Paint 😥

  6. Adele, photo-editing in Paint :yikes: It'd be worth waiting until winter to avoid that.

  7. Mark thanks! The newt is such a tiny little thing (not much bigger than a tadpole), but those gills are so elegant.

  8. Brendan, I thank you

@Words – these have been tough times! 🙁

  9. Nobody should be made to suffer with Paint.

I'm actually very fond of GIMP, but the lack of support manuals makes the learning curve a bit tough. OTOH, I really love being able to run it of a USB stick. And the crop/resize function is pretty self-explanatory.

  10. Yes, it seems a very handy programme. I usually use Adobe Photoshop Elements and that is certainly helping with this.

  11. I carry IrfanView on a stick for emergencies 😉 Useful for quick edits, but not as extensive.
