The main focus of today's blog is just a handful of shots of a jay that I spotted while out by the fields at lunchtime. It had been quiet and all I'd seen (apart from some sheep and cattle in the distance) was a lone buzzard perched high in a very distant tree. I did take a photo but you can't really see more than a vague shape among the branches.

The jay was almost as awkward, landing close by but… well you can see for yourself what the problem was.

It was then that my luck changed, and I managed a brief sequence as it flew across the open field to a much less tangled tree nearby.

A couple more stray shots to round things off. First a female kestrel spotted hovering just by my building at work.

And one from early this morning… a backlit robin.

  1. Handsome shots of the jay, Words.
And that robin is a nice one, too.

  2. You surely had good luck  But also good skill to catch so wonderful shots :hat:

  3. Very nice shots of the jay in flight! As for the branches…yes :insane:

  4. Nice colors 😀

  5. Sami, thanks! The tricky one was the jay in the tree (manual focus for that one)

  6. dW, thanks! I really like watching jays. They are so distinctive, though not quite as startlingly pretty as the American Blue Jay.

  7. Adele, the one blessing at this time of year is that the trees are bare!

  8. Darko, thanks!
