London’s Calling

I was in London today, by Tower Bridge. A bright day, and lots of people were out with cameras. They were taking pictures of HMS Belfast, Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, river boats, each other. Very few were photographing these though.

I've put several more shots in a new album, inventively titled Cormorants at Tower Bridge

Camera note: all shots taken with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

Thanks Lois! It was a really nice surprise to see them there. I expected to see some gulls and pigeons, but these weren't on my list.

Darko, if only. But there were quite a lot of them to choose from. 🙂

Eric, thanks. I took a lot of shots trying to get one on the start of a dive. I managed it once. I've an awful lot of splashes and the tip of a tail.

One of the highlights of london. There are always some on the Thames when I cross it on the train (near battersea poer station), and I ahd that close encounter in Regents Park last winter. Saying that the population in my local park has now grown to 23, which isnt bad for a lake that had 0 a couple of months ago!

    great photos 🙂

Neil, maybe what I see depends on the lens I have with me. It's the first time I've taken the long lens up there, and it couldn't have been better. I presume they've been there on other occasions. Nice though 🙂

My cormorant shots typically show a white splash where the bird has just dived! :insane: Great shots!

Adele, I have dozens of those too… and plenty of it sitting *not* diving. Out of around 300 frames I managed just one with it at the start of the dive.

Neil, I know you're not :p Seriously, it was driving me crazy trying to get that, but having a camera that will take about 6 frames a second – and an 8Gb card in it – helps.
