Another typical evening in the garden. It started with a fox as the light was fading. Shutterbug was outside, resting in the middle of the grass. He seems to enjoy his solitude.

Later it was more of what's become the regular routine. Set up the trail cam. Deposit a handful of peanuts.Step back, and wait.

Sure enough a young badger appeared within a few minutes.

For once, it wasn't my presence that startled the badger. It was a fox, appearing through the hedge. Shy Boy to be precise.

The badger retreated and I didn't see it again. They avoided each other this time, but that's not always the case. Here's some footage from a night or so ago.

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM lens. Trail cam footage from the Bushnell Trophy Cam

  1. Shy Boy appears to be quite self-confident. A "late bloomer", I reckon.

  2. What is he looking at at 0:35? Is it a badger's back or a hedgehog? (Admittedly, it would have to be a very brave hedgehog with so many badgers and foxes around.)

  3. Adele, he's watching the badger… carefully!

  4. Erwin, thanks!

  5. dW, it's always the way. The one you least expect takes over the garden.

  6. Like always great shots and very beautiful
