More Slug Romancing and a few birds…

Yesterday's jackdaws deserved a post of their own, so some of these are from Monday, including this green woodpecker seen early in the morning.

I'm taking more photos than usual of the very pretty collared doves. I know the shot I'm after (this isn't it), but for now just a simple flight shot over the pond will have to do.

Moving on to last night, our resident leopard slugs were in yet another mating knot. This year is proving very good for them (or I'm becoming more observant). I followed these two from their slow circling on the wall, right through to their eventual separation. These two shots are roughly mid-cycle.

As for today, the skies were once again overcast, and there was a hint of drizzle in the air. Far from ideal, but I don't suppose moorhens mind some gentle rain. And when it isn't raining, they create their own!

Finally, because I am still fascinated with them, two more shots of the pond rats. This time it's a young rat scrambling over some rocks, photographed through some light undergrowth. The rat was pulling leaves from the branches, but I blew the shot of it doing that… These are the best of the rest.

Darko, thanks. The reflected light on the pond sets it off well; but when (or if) I get the shot I really want you'll see why I want it!

Always good to see a woodpecker! 🙂 One of the faculty here caught one during the bird ringing on Monday. I was expecting it to squawk extremely loudly in our ears but it was very patient, all things considered.

Adele, it would be nice to see them a little bit closer than that, but I won't complain. It sounds like you're enjoying your course.
