The South Downs continue to hide behind a shroud of mist and fog, but there was just enough visibility early this morning to track a kestrel as it took a leaf out of the lazy bird's hunting guide and used telephone poles (and similar structures) as its lookout point. I guess it saves energy on a cold morning.
Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

Interesting, Words, that he picks the lineman's rung to sit on … was there someone else on the top?
Love the pic of the landing on that steel pipe-thing!
 Interesting series
Hmm, the hint of blue sky in the first shot. I've practically forgotten what the sun is
Sometimes I wonder how raptors would react if all the telegraph poles and fenceposts were removed from the world!
Adele, sadly it was only a hint of blue.
As for no poles to sit on, it reminded me of this take on wireless technology.
dW, no there was nothing further up the pole. I guess it just wanted a slightly closer look at the ground. Or maybe the rung is a better perch anyway. I've no idea what that pipe is, but the birds like it.
Sami, thanks!
😆
I've opted for trying to avoid a blog washout by taking drastic measures (going several thousand miles away at the end of November 😉 )

Much warmer 😉
Don't go there, Adele! They don't let you out, and those pitchforks hurt!
