Young birds fall into two categories.

Pretty (greylag goslings)

Ugly (young herring gulls)

Off-theme, but worth posting anyway is a peregrine that I saw flying overhead as I was leaving work this evening. There was also a buzzard in the vicinity. The local gulls were not happy!

  2. Those herring gulls are growing fast!

  3. great shots

  4. Darko, so they are really. I think the herring gulls are quite charming in their scruffy way.

  5. dW, they certainly are. Not quite ready to fly but it can't be long now.

  6. Erwin, thanks!

  7. Mostly (all?) ringbills around here … their young are pretty scruffy, too.

  8. dW, I just checked out some photos of ringbills, as we don't see them here. Pretty looking gulls.

  9. Lots of them in my albums. They always make me very aware that the dinosaurs didn't die out; they just changed.
