Last night's was a quick post of a few newts taken while I was out filming and photographing yet another leopard slug mating sequence. I've now seen this four or five times this season and had got to the stage where I wasn't even bothering to reach for the camera. Except last night was different. Instead of their usual location against a white painted wall near the front of the garden, the two slugs were at the rear of the garden on the fence post where I usually put the trail cam. This was much better: a dark, wooden background and a chance of some shots against empty space (i.e. a black background). So I set up the camera and (for video) used my torch for light.

First a few stills.

Disengaging

And now the video… just a shortish sequence from somewhere in the middle of the mating. The light is from my torch which was placed on the ground beneath the slugs.

Camera note: all shots and video taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM lens.

  1. Two slugs and a spider. Nice one

  2. Darko, the spider was quite a bonus. It wanted a close-up view. I just wonder whether it also had a camera

  3. 😆
