Garden Life (Time Lapse) #4

I think this is the fourth of the fortnightly time-lapse sequences. Lots of badgers in this one, plus several foxes (two of which unfortunately appear to be suffering from mange), plus assorted cats and birds. It’s difficult to intervene to help the foxes with the mange as I’ve not made any attempt to familiarize with any of the foxes this year, so they are naturally shy and elusive. To treat them, I need to get to know them and that’s not easy with cautious adults.

Anyway here’s the clip:

One photo from today. I have more, but I’ll post those tomorrow. Tonight it’s just a single sunset. A nice one though.

Camera note: sunset photo taken with the Canon 7D Mark II and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens. Time-lapse from the Bushnell Trophy Cam HD, processed in Lightroom.

Garden Trail Cam – Foxes and Badgers

I may not have spent much time looking for foxes, but trail camera keeps things ticking over nicely. Here, in just under 90 seconds, are 1400+ stills captured over the past two weeks. A few badger sequences are dotted between the foxes. Stumpy (the fox with a short, bare brush) features quite a lot, plus several others. The coldest it gets during the sequence is -9°C. There’s also a light covering of snow in a couple of places.

Fox and Badger Update

I’ve spent very little time recently watching for the garden foxes and badgers. I’ve had one or two glimpses out of the window, but nothing to photograph. They are around though. There are several foxes, and at least two badgers. The foxes are in varying condition. At least two healthy ones, plus Stumpy (the fox with half a hairless brush), and another fox with signs of slight mange. There may be another.

This has all been gleaned from the trail camera which is set to take stills at this time of year. I do this when the temperature drops because the cold weather drains the batteries very quickly and 15-20 second video clips use a lot more energy than bursts of three stills.

I’ve put about 700 shots from the last couple of weeks together as a time-lapse video. It’s fast so don’t blink!

There were a couple of magpies and a cat in there as well. Checking the temperature readings it got down as low as -7°C during that period.

Here are the two badgers in case you missed them in the rush.
