Common Lizard at Watts Bank

Keeping to my ‘promise’ to only post reasonable shots I’m pleased to say that our local lizards are back in town. They live at the edge of the car park at work, on a grassy bank that is a rare urban example of Downs grassland. There’s not much of it, but a key part of the local green corridor.

This is the view from the bank towards the car park. My office is in the PortaKabin on the right.

The lizards tend to hang out in the corner, near the edge. There were three out today, keeping close to a rusting pipe that has been dumped in the undergrowth. I suffered a little bit of wrong-lens complex (I just had a 50mm lens with me, not my zoom or macro). This shot is the best of those I got of the lizards. It’s a nice pose and not too much grass in the way.

Green Lizard

Between periods of torrential rain there were just enough glimpses of sunshine to tempt the car park lizards out into the open, including one that until now had proved elusive. The green lizard. It’s much more skittish than the brown lizards that congregate on the wall but I was able to get quite close.

The more familiar brown lizard was also out.

Looking at you!

In case you’ve not been looking at my Fox of the Day you may have missed that the large male is becoming a little less cautious. Here’s one of him from a couple of nights ago.

Lizard and Butterfly

Just a quick post of a couple more shots of the local lizards (taken up close), and a red admiral butterfly seen tonight in our garden. After a couple of cool days it looks like the weather will be improving again and I can see me spending more time bug-hunting with the macro lens.

That’s all for now!

Camera note: lizards taken with the Canon 7D Mark II and EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM lens. I actually used the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM for the butterfly.
