The Cormorants of Chichester Marina

This is the second part of our visit to Chichester. As I hinted last night, the outstanding moments of the trip were provided by the cormorants which inhabit the marina. A number of them were sitting out on a jetty on the south side of the marina.

And in any group, there's always one who wants to take the higher ground, to show off and generally try to steal the scene…

Others are more content to drift with the tide, to float serenely along the calm waters of life…

Some choose to tell stories about the one that got away: "It was this big, I'm telling you."

And some are foolish enough to believe the storyteller…

And to bow their head in admiration…

And all the while the children sit quietly, and listen…

Mark, thanks. They certainly do have a big wing span. It was great fun watching them, though it was quite cold and breezy out there most of the time.

Excellent. I rather like cormorants, even though their not the local fishermens favourite birds!

Lois, thanks. I had fun taking those shots. It's not often I have such cooperative subjects.

Adele, thanks. I have countless shots of that one perched alone (the second shot), doing everything from stretching to preening, and … er… relieving itself. It didn't move off that spot for over an hour.

Neil, yes anglers tend not to like cormorants (I've no idea why  ) But they're great to watch, especially when you get a little mob together like that.

Darko, we have an old saying here about the 'one that got away'. All fishermen tell the story, and they always spread their arms as wide as they can and say 'it really was this big'. 😀

    The same here, Words 😀
