It's still cold, but even a few extra degrees is welcome. Even better was that the sun eventually deigned to show its face. It was sporadic in the morning and the sky had clouded over again when I spotted a pair of buzzards flying over the garden. The gulls (and every other bird around) were giving them a wide berth as they headed out over the downs.

By the afternoon the clouds had finally given up and departed leaving some genuinely blue skies. This is the view of the cliffs at Saltdean looking towards Telscombe.

The fulmars seem to have vanished, though they may simply have been out for the afternoon. The pigeons were lively though, with this trio up for a game of football.

They weren't making much progress, and if the truth be told they are taking part in the slowest game ever seen. That ball hasn't moved at all in at least three years, possibly longer. It's tightly wedged in the goal, and no-one is shifting it. A jackdaw was taking on referee duties close by.

As the afternoon progressed the sun continued to shine, and back home there were plenty of small birds flitting around the garden. This is a goldfinch.

As for other visitors, here's another of the local cats.

The final shot was taken as the sun finally took its leave for the day. Please come back tomorrow. We enjoyed your company!

  1. Glad you were out, Words! Such a lift to the spirit.

  2. Sunshine indeed!

    Love the football match 😀

  3. Your photographs are always amazing.

  4. It looks like someone with an airgun could give those pigeons a bit more room. Maybe a bow-and-arrow would be better, though … with a bit of string tied to the arrow, to drag the deflated ball out.

  5. That's for the spacecraft in my new album.

  6. A traction beam maybe?

  7. BBK, thanks!

  8. dW, it helps. I go stir crazy if I get stuck indoors for too long.

  9. Adele, I always wonder about the person who kicked the ball up there in the first place. It must have been a mighty good shot.

  10. dW, don't give people ideas. That ball is one of the few certainties in life. I'd be really sad to see it go.

  11. Is that local cat holding down a goldfinch from a previous photo? :insane:

  12. Darko, it would love to have had the chance, but the answer is no. I suspect it spotted an insect or a leaf.
