It's time to mix up the recent fox posts with some of the local bird life. Yesterday the pond at Falmer featured two of the larger visitors: a heron (and they don't really come much larger than this)…

…and a little egret. For a while I thought it was going to land, but instead it circled several times before heading off into the distance.

The heron was back there again today, shrouded in mist (I've tidied up the shot a bit) but happily gobbling down one of the local carp.

Over on campus the roofs are still l home to a variety of gull chicks. These are two of the lesser black-backed gulls.

They are a couple of weeks younger than the herring gulls who are fast developing their flight feathers which gives them a rather untidy look. This young herring gull was relaxing on the edge of a green roof.

I can't leave this post without at least one picture of a fox. This is Pretty, earlier this evening.
