The starlings are very active at the moment feeding their broods. I&#39;d never given much thought to insect mating habits (well why would I), but these days I keep my eyes open for new insects or unusual behaviour. Anyway, today&#39;s insect shot comes with a &#39;mature audience&#39; warning:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/fly_mating_2005072969.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17283\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/fly_mating_2005072969-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"flies mating\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-17283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/fly_mating_2005072969-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/fly_mating_2005072969-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/fly_mating_2005072969.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"aligncenter\">There are several more new photos (of butterflies and moths) in the <a href=\"http:\/\/my.opera.com\/Words\/albums\/show.dml?id=238214\" target=\"_blank\">Butterflies and Bugs album.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As for the foxes, well still no sightings of cubs, though I did spot a fox trotting between gardens about half a mile away from here this afternoon. No camera though :(. And the back of the garden has undergone further excavations. The pile of soil by the entrance to what seems to be an unused earth has grown again.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/05\/hole_2005072916.jpg' \/><\/span> <span class=\"aligncenter\">Entrance to the earth<\/span><\/p>\n<p>And what&#39;s more, bizarre gifts have started appearing outside the entrance. Now either this is a present for a vixen, or we have a family of bank robbing foxes living nearby.
