I&#39;m not sure if this means we&#39;ve already had winter or whether we&#39;ve some cold shocks ahead, but I did see two butterflies today. Both refused to keep still, so you&#39;ll have to take my word for the fact that one was white, and the other yellow. I wasn&#39;t close enough to get more of an i.d., but a nice surprise. <\/p>\n<p>The sight of the butterflies got me thinking. If they&#39;re around, we should be seeing more insect life. So I plugged the extension tubes on the end of the 100-400 lens and started hunting. I did come across two ladybirds, but ended up photographing a small feather on a path.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/feather_bw_1002085069.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/feather_bw_1002085069.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/leaf_1002085033.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/leaf_1002085033.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">And a leaf<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/hoverfly_1002085042.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/hoverfly_1002085042.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">And my first hoverfly of the year<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The gulls were active too (when are they not?), but I think this is probably the first time I photographed a gull&#39;s tongue. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/gull_1002085162.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/gull_1002085162.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>No sighting of foxes this evening, though we did have a late visit last night.
