By late afternoon we were shrouded in mist, so very few opportunities for bird or mammal watching (although a fox did flit through the garden this morning). Instead I hunted out the smaller creatures. Whether they can be classed as beauties or beasts is (I guess) a matter of taste. Needless to say, I quite like them :bug:<\/p>\n<p>The wet weather brought out the snails.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/bugs\/album\/slides\/snail_3108083030.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/bugs\/album\/snail_3108083030.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Bashful snail<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the slugs&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/bugs\/album\/slides\/slug_3108083061.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/bugs\/album\/slug_3108083061.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">A sluggish slug<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More unusual was this shield bug lurking at the rear of the garden.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/bugs\/album\/slides\/shield_bug_3108083016_b.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/bugs\/album\/shield_bug_3108083016_b.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Shield bug<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Being out with the macro made me wonder whether we had any young newts in the pond.
