It was one of those cold autumn days today. Blues skies, but a sharp chill. Greenfinches were out in numbers, along with chaffinches and some goldfinches.

The starlings were flocking and hustling their way on to the peanut feeders. Their persistence was matched by the blue tits which would hop down as soon as the coast was clear.

A flock of piebald pigeons flew overhead.

Amid all the noise, there was a persistent chirrup that caught my ear. I eventually located the source of the sound. It was flitting in among the dense branches, never stopping; doing its best to remain hidden. And it was tiny. Much smaller than the blue tit, but pretty as a goldfinch. It's the smallest of all the European birds. I managed three shots of it, two of which had it partly hidden behind branches. So that left one usable shot. It's the first time I've seen this little thing \ud83d\ude00
