The tide was out, revealing extensive rock pools which provide an excellent feeding site for the sea birds.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/rottingdean_beach_2312085132.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/rottingdean_beach_2312085132.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Rottingdean Beach at low tide<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As well as the usual array of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/gulls_2312085179.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">gulls<\/a> and passing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/oystercatcher_2312085333.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">oystercatchers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/cormorant_2312085164.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">cormorants<\/a>, I was delighted to find an egret feeding. I struggled to get close enough for a decent shot in what was very poor light.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/egret_2312085292.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/egret_2312085292.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Egret in the rock pools<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/egret_2312085311.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/egret_2312085311.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Taking off<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/egret_2312085327.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/egret_2312085327.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">In flight<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are several more shots in the <a href=\"http:\/\/my.opera.com\/Words\/albums\/show.dml?id=240536\" target=\"_blank\">Rottingdean album<\/a>. There were two egrets on the beach, though I didn&#39;t get to see them together except briefly when they took to the wing. <br \/><span class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/natureblognetwork.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/natureblognetwork.com\/button.php?u=Words\" width=\"0\" height=\"0\" alt=\"Nature Blog Network\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/span><br \/><i>Camera note: all the shots were taken with the EF 100-400mm f\/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.
