And the temperature dropped back down to around freezing again. Not ideal weather for driving, but I made good time and I&#39;d arrived in Surrey with 20 minutes or so to spare. Enough time to attempt some photos. There were some gulls dicing with the frozen lake.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/lake_surrey_1401099682.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/lake_surrey_1401099682.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Black headed gulls on partially frozen lake<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ducks, on the other hand, had congregated in a slightly less barren spot.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/ducks_1401099663.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/ducks_1401099663.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Mallards<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the coots and the geese were remaining firmly on dry land.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/coot_1401099748.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/coot_1401099748.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Coot<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/goose_1401099743.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/goose_1401099743.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Canada Goose<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was still misty when I left Surrey at lunchtime, but the southern end of the Downs seemed to have escaped the poor weather, and I got back to find Sussex enjoying a weak wintry sun. <br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/sheep_1401099774.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/sheep_1401099774.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Sheep on the South Downs<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/sheep_1401099765.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img SRC=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/sheep_1401099765.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">The rams were jousting<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On garden matters, the nicked-ear vixen showed up tonight, saw me&#8230; and vanished in a flash! But not the flash of a camera. She was far too quick for that. So her sudden intolerance of humans continues, which is possibly no bad thing if she&#39;s pregnant. It will be interesting to see if things change around March which is when cubs are likely to be born.
