I went back to Rottingdean today for another look and, if anything, they were even more active. Unlike the gulls which were congregating down on the beach (it was low tide), the fulmars were hugging the cliff face. The raised underwalk which runs below the cliffs (but above the beach) is perfect for capturing flight shots. They skim in at eye level as they head in to cliff from the sea.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/fulmar\/album\/slides\/fulmar_2401090651.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/fulmar_2401090651.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" alt=\"fulmar\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Fulmar<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It seems early for nesting, but their behaviour suggests that they may well be getting themselves ready. Numerous pairs were perched in hollows along the cliff face.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/fulmar\/album\/slides\/fulmar_2401090684.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/fulmar_2401090684.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" alt=\"pair of fulmars\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Pair of fulmars<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lots of mutual billing&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/fulmar\/album\/slides\/fulmar_2401090784.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/fulmar_2401090784.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" alt=\"pair of fulmars\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Occasional spats&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/fulmar\/album\/slides\/fulmar_2401090809.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/fulmar_2401090809.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" alt=\"pair of fulmars\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Fulmars<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And a few moments of calm&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/fox\/fulmar\/album\/slides\/fulmar_2401090901.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/fulmar_2401090901.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" alt=\"pair of fulmars\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several appeared to have oil streaked on them. If it is oil, that&#39;s not such a good sign, though none of the birds seemed unduly affected by it.
