I saw this beauty while out photographing butterflies. It&#8217;s a Roesel&#8217;s bush cricket, the first I&#8217;ve seen and quite stunning.<\/p>\n<p><!--cut and paste--><a href=\"http:\/\/my.opera.com\/365\/albums\/showpic.dml?album=667931&amp;picture=11131133\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"roesel's bush cricket\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/roesels_bush_cricket_0907092301.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Roesel&#8217;s bush cricket<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The butterflies were plentiful, with a good variety of species sharing a small thicket at the edge of field.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"imgcenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/comma_meadow_brown_butterfly_0907092187.jpg\" \/><\/span> <span class=\"aligncenter\">Meadow Brown (upper) and Comma (lower)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"imgcenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/gatekeeper_butterfly_0907092228.jpg\" \/><\/span> <span class=\"aligncenter\">Gatekeeper. Note the two white dots which distinguish this from the similar meadow brown<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"imgcenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/red_admiral_butterfly_0907092306.jpg\" \/><\/span> <span class=\"aligncenter\">Red Admiral (a rare sighting this year)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>And one more from yesterday. About the only thing that distracted me from the swallows&#8230;<br \/>\n<span class=\"imgcenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/heron_0807092027.jpg\" \/><\/span> <span class=\"aligncenter\">Heron<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/natureblognetwork.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Nature Blog Network\" src=\"http:\/\/natureblognetwork.com\/button.php?u=Words\" width=\"0\" height=\"0\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<i>Camera note: the heron and the photo of the two butterflies were taken with the EF 400mm f\/5.6L USM lens.
