It was far too nice today to sit in and watch the football (though tomorrow afternoon that&#39;s exactly what I&#39;ll be doing despite the glorious weather ;)). Instead I went in search of the local falcons&#8230; I didn&#39;t have to wait long.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/kestrel_prey_2606107575.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>It&#39;s carrying a vole, and was having a very successful afternoon. A little while later I caught this shot as it stooped for another kill&#8230;<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/kestrel_2606107749.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>This time I was able to follow it as it gathered up its prey&#8230;<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/kestrel_2606107761.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/kestrel_prey_2606107818.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/kestrel_prey_2606107878.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/kestrel_prey_2606107884.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/kestrel_prey_2606107885.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>The valley where I take these is reclaimed downland, and there are small thickets and coppices where smaller birds thrive. This blackbird has a hungry brood to feed.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/blackbird_2606107923.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>Nearby there&#39;s a small colony of whitethroats. <br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/whitethroat_2606107928.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>The fledglings are now hopping among the lower branches. <br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/whitethroat_fledgling_2606107959.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>And all around the skylarks fill the air with their song. <br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/skylark_2606108052.jpg' \/><\/span> <br \/><span class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/natureblognetwork.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/natureblognetwork.com\/button.php?u=Words\" width=\"0\" height=\"0\" alt=\"Nature Blog Network\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/span><br \/><i>Camera note: all shots taken with the EF 400mm f\/5.6L USM lens.
