There&#39;s plenty of untidy areas left for the smaller fauna to use though I would still welcome a visit from the larger regulars (i.e. foxes!), but in their absence here are a few  garden sighting from the past three days.<\/p>\n<p>We have a good colony of nursery web spiders. They&#39;re small, and dash for cover if your shadow crosses them as they sit out on a thick patch of ground cover.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/nursery_web_spider_0910104480.jpg' \/><\/span> <span class=\"aligncenter\">Nursery web spider<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The greenfinches have put in a late appearance, after being absent for much of the summer.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/greenfinch_0910104504.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>And there are still numerous species of hoverfly.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/hoverfly_0910104464.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>Among the numerous insects I&#39;ve spotted&#8230;<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/rhopalus_subrufus_bug_1010104661.jpg' \/><\/span> <span class=\"aligncenter\">A Rhopalus subrufus bug (I think the i.d. is ok)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A (hawthorn?) shield bug<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/shield_bug_1010104635.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>Several dragonflies (actually quite a few are scouting the garden at the moment), but my favourite capture is this migrant hawker.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/migrant_hawker_dragonfly_1010104608.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>Much easier to photograph (because there are more of them, and they tend to rest more frequently) are the common darters.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/common_darter_dragonfly_1110104811.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>And lurking under a pile of tree cuttings, a handsome (and large) frog.
