After yesterday's false start, the sunshine did put in a proper appearance today. And so, to my surprise, did someone else.<\/p>\n

I was just getting ready to go out in search of kestrels when I glanced out of the window… a fox was at the front of the garden. I grabbed the camera and took a quick shot through the window.

It's the young male (Cheeky's brother), who is shy and prone to run off if approached. I opened the door slowly, expecting him to run off, and poked the camera out through the gap. He stayed!
<\/span> <\/p>\n

I stepped outside… He stayed!
<\/span> <\/p>\n

He retreated to the rear of the garden…
<\/span> <\/p>\n

Then he paused, and waited…
<\/span> <\/p>\n

And watched (I stayed about 20 feet away, barely moving)…
<\/span> <\/p>\n

We sat and looked at each other for a few minutes. He eventually made a slow retreat out of the garden, keeping a wary eye on me the whole time.

I have to admit it was a pleasure to take photos in daylight, though if anything the sun was too strong and it was a struggle to manage the light and shade. Mustn't complain though! And there was still time to go out to the Downs. It was quiet, but the winter light was quite exceptional.
