The park had gone unusually quiet as the cold weather chilled the ground. The animals were in watchful, rather than playful, mood. <\/p>\n<p>The herons were on self-appointed guard duty&#8230;<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/heron_2611101641.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>&#8230; though they failed to apprehend one small interloper.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/heron_2611101650.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>The whooper swans were sitting gracefully by the water&#39;s edge, occasionally grooming  but mostly sleeping&#8230;<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/whooper_swan_2611101628.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>Even the rats were more watchful than usual&#8230;<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/rat_2611101613.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>As for me, I left the main watch duty to the trail cam. The forecasts suggest that down on the south coast we&#39;ll miss the wintry weather, but we can never be sure.
