This is a brief sequence of some moorhen mating &#39;challenges&#39;. Once again I was on the wrong side of the lake, but even so it&#39;s clear moorhens take this kind of jousting extremely seriously \ud83d\ude00<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/moorhen_1001116929.jpg' \/><\/span> <span class=\"aligncenter\">Moorhens jousting. They were very active, with lots of diving and shaking.<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/red_crested_pochard_1001116916.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>They even made a brief fly-past (twice).<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/red_crested_pochard_1001116990.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/red_crested_pochard_1001117006.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>The oddest confrontation of the day though was between a pigeon and a coot. The pigeon was very persistent, pecking at the coot until it drove it a whole couple of feet away from a particular patch of grass. Why? I&#39;ve absolutely no idea!<br \/><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/coot_pigeon_1001117029.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img alt='' src='https:\/\/www.permuted.org.uk\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/coot_pigeon_1001117025.jpg' \/><\/span> <\/p>\n<p>Plus a rat.
